Devin Haney is back in training and getting ready for whenever his next fight is set. Haney, 26, looks like he’s lost muscle weight, perhaps due to atrophy from seven months of inactivity.
135 or 140?
The weight loss could be a strategic move for the former two-division world champion Haney to ensure he can stay at 140 or move back down to 135.
If Haney could return to lightweight, there are a lot of well-paying fights for him against these fighters:
Gervonta Davis
William Zepeda
Shakur Stevenson
Keyshawn Davis
Devin has been lying fallow since his loss to Ryan Garcia on April 20th, and the defeat messed up his career momentum going into it. When you lose a fight like that, the worst possible thing you can do is stay inactive, thinking about the loss and being mentally tortured by the memories. In Ryan’s case, he’d had no choice but to sit inactive due to his one-year suspension. Haney should have already been back.
Haney’s high purse expectations could be one of the main problems keeping him out of the ring. If he insists on getting the same purse that he received for his fight against Ryan, this will make it difficult for him. Only a few fighters around Haney’s weight can bring him the same money.
Haney’s Next Move
If he’d won that fight, he’d likely have already been back in the ring with a big-money fight against Gervonta Davis or Teofimo Lopez by now. Tank might be an option for Haney in 2025 if he plays his cards right.
The former two-division world champion Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) hasn’t given any hints about who he wants to fight, but he’s going to have to fight a big name if he wants to be paid along the lines of his last match on against Ryan. If that’s the fight that he wants, he needs to tell his father, Bill, to make nice with Kingry, break bread and scrap the lawsuit idea.
